Joshi offers a variety of afterschool music enrichment programs, including but not limited to, Orff music classes for all levels, and Jazz, Pop & World Music Classes.
Orff Music Classes
The Orff music classes are based on the philosophy and practice of Orff Schulwerk, a dynamic approach to music education developed by the composer Carl Orff and his colleague, Gunild Keetman.
This approach begins from the premise that every child is innately musical and naturally loves to play, sing and dance. Children not only learn songs, dances and instrumental pieces from all over the world on Orff instruments, but they also add their own ideas to each experience through improvisation, composition and choreography.
Activities call forth children’s intellect, imagination, senses, emotions, social and physical skills in ways that contribute significantly to their total educational experience.
Jazz, Pop & World Music Class
In the Jazz, Pop & World Music class we learn and perform selections from world beat, Latin, jazz, and rock genres. The campers will also sing, play games, chant rhymes, clap, dance, and learn to keep a beat, developing instincts that are directed into learning music by hearing and making music. The students will learn in a non-competitive atmosphere how to collaborate, and become sensitive listeners and considerate participants of a band. The goal of the class is for the students to have total active involvement in music making and start them on a lifetime of knowledge and pleasure through personal musical experience.
